Aitor Saraiba
Spanish visual artist, writer and multidisciplinary creator whose practice centres on textile art, traditional craft techniques and storytelling. Working across embroidery, sewing, ceramics, drawing, photography and writing, he creates deeply personal work exploring memory, identity, spirituality, popular culture and the relationship between contemporary art and inherited knowledge.
Textiles hold a central place in his practice. His connection with embroidery and sewing began at home, watching the women in his family sew, mend and transform fabrics as part of everyday life. These domestic gestures have since become important artistic tools, and many of his pieces continue to be made collaboratively with his family. Through this work, he celebrates collective making, popular knowledge and the intergenerational transmission of craft.
Aitor is also an accomplished author and illustrator. His books, published in Spanish, bring literature and visual art together in narratives shaped by vulnerability, identity, memory and the transformative power of making. His first book in English, Embroider, Mend and Sew, was just published worldwide.
He lives and works in the mountains of Cantabria, Spain, where he continues to explore the links between art, craft, nature and everyday life.
