Her inspiration for 2027 comes from France and Australia.

In the first project we will be using Toile de Jouy. These narrative textiles were first
developed by the Oberkampf factory near Versailles in the eighteenth century but they have remained popular throughout the world since then. We will be using textile collage
techniques, broderie perse, patchwork and applique and Mandy will offer up a variety of outcomes for you to choose from. You will need to provide your toile de jouy fabric but a list of materials that you need to bring will be sent to you before you participate.

We move from the fabric of palaces and grand houses to a project that is inspired by a
family who made a quilt to reflect their lives and beliefs. The Westbury Quilt was made by the Hampson family in Tasmania right at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is
perhaps Mandy’s favourite historical quilt because of its quirky illustrative qualities and
because the colours are confined to red and white. Mandy will provide a piece of red and a piece of white quilt for you to work with ( there will be a small charge of 15 euros for this) and you will make your own interpretation of one of the many panels featured in the quilt.
